Welcome to the home page of Alpha Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, meeting at 6 Main Street, Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

An Observant Lodge

We practice observant freemasonry and meet the fourth Monday of the month, we are part of the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world, an organization that is dedicated to the basic tenets of friendship, morality, and brotherly love. Alpha Lodge was formally constituted on November 13, 1876, and has been quietly serving the community since its inception. Part of our mission, and every Masonic lodge's mission, is to "make good men better" to serve our families, fraternity, faith, communities, and country. Alpha Lodge operates by charter under the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Massachusetts.

Inquire

The first step to becoming a Freemason, especially if you don't know any, is to get to know some of us. Becoming a Freemason is a very personal decision and is not a right fit for everyone. We want to get to know you to make sure Masonry is right for you, and you should get to know us to understand if we are the right lodge for you.

Engage

We meet once each month and start by sitting down together to share a meal. We spend time catching up but will often have a presentation or discussion of an educational, historical, or philosphical nature. While meetings are reserved for only those who are Freemasons, guests and visitors are warmly received for dinner, by invitation.

Ask

No one is asked to become a Freemason. This is not a society that has been privately selected by invitation only. Our Fraternity is built on free-minded men who seek out and ask to be made a Mason. Once you have gotten to know some of the members, ask for a petition. They will let you know if they think it is right for you and the right time to join.

Petition

Once you fill out your petition, you will be expected to give references to vouch for your character and values. This is one reason it is so important to get to know some of the members. After you have your petition submitted, several members will be assigned to your request and will meet with you to explore your interest and provide answer to any remaining questions.

AdamMarksHelmOn September 22, 2025, Alpha Lodge installed Worshipful Adam C. Marks as Master of the Lodge, taking the helm for the 2026 Masonic year.

While this is not his first term as Master of Alpha Lodge, Wor. Bro. Marks noted that it is his first year leading the Lodge as an observant lodge. When asked what distinguishes an observant lodge from another, he emphasized that every lodge is special, but that some choose to distinguish themselves by leaning into particular traits.

“For example,” he said, “some lodges lean toward charitable giving, such as Scimitar Lodge, which is affiliated with the Aleppo Shrine—an organization known worldwide for its philanthropy. Others focus on particular teachings, such as the Lodge of the Royal Secret, aligned with Scottish Rite Freemasonry, of which I am also a member. Still others are considered affinity lodges, such as the Scouters Lodge, composed of Eagle Scouts.”

When asked what makes an observant lodge distinct, Marks explained:AlphaLodge2025Line

  • Intentionality and Reverence – Our meetings are conducted as solemn, sacred labor with full attention to preparation and ritual excellence.
  • Dress and Decorum – We honor the Lodge as a temple by wearing our finest and maintaining dignity in conduct.
  • Spirituality and Philosophy at the Center – Our work is rooted in spirituality and philosophy, the heart of Masonry’s transformative purpose.
  • Candidate Nurturing – Candidates progress with thoughtful mentoring, demonstrating both proficiency and understanding before being advanced.
  • Festive Board / Agape – Our agape is an extension of the Lodge’s work, joining fellowship with reflection and ceremony.
  • Living the Ideals – Service means striving to live the Masonic principles we profess, carrying them into daily life.

“In closing, Marks emphasized that Alpha Lodge is open and welcoming: ‘We invite all Masons to visit and experience our Lodge, our members, and our style of Masonry. For men who feel called to this deeper path, the door s always open to explore and learn more about the Craft. And for those not yet Masons, we welcome conversations with anyone who is curious about what Freemasonry is.’”
