Welcome to the home page of Alpha Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, meeting at 6 Main Street, Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

We meet every 4th Monday, September through June

As a lodge of Freemasons, we are part of the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world, an organization that is dedicated to the basic tenets of friendship, morality, and brotherly love. Alpha Lodge was formally constituted on November 13, 1876, and has been quietly serving the community since its inception. Part of our mission, and every Masonic lodge's mission, is to "make good men better" to serve our families, fraternity, faith, communities, and country. Alpha Lodge operates by charter under the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Massachusetts.

Inquire

The first step to becoming a Freemason, especially if you don't know any, is to get to know some of us. Becoming a Freemason is a very personal decision and is not a right fit for everyone. We want to get to know you to make sure Masonry is right for you, and you should get to know us to understand if we are the right lodge for you.

Engage

We meet once each month and start by sitting down together to share a meal. We spend time catching up but will often have a presentation or discussion of an educational, historical, or philosphical nature. While meetings are reserved for only those who are Freemasons, guests and visitors are warmly received for dinner, by invitation.

Ask

No one is asked to become a Freemason. This is not a society that has been privately selected by invitation only. Our Fraternity is built on free-minded men who seek out and ask to be made a Mason. Once you have gotten to know some of the members, ask for a petition. They will let you know if they think it is right for you and the right time to join.

Petition

Once you fill out your petition, you will be expected to give references to vouch for your character and values. This is one reason it is so important to get to know some of the members. After you have your petition submitted, several members will be assigned to your request and will meet with you to explore your interest and provide answer to any remaining questions.

Home

This Masonic year, Alpha Lodge is presenting a program aligned with our adoption of observant Masonry. Observant masonry means committing ourselves to doing the utmost to conduct ourselves intentionally and to the best of our abilities, within our lodge and outside. It means knowing and following our Grand Constitutions and bylaws. It means excellence in all we do, from how we conduct ourselves, to caring for each other as we have committed to do, to committing ourselves to studying our ritual and philosophy so that we are always aiming to be a better version of ourselves from one day to the next.

Our program for the year will be to focus on eight areas of excellence as presented and recommended by Wor. Andrew Hammer, W. B. Andrew Hammer, PM, Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22, in his paper, "Eight Steps to Excellence: The Observant Lodge" (by permission of Wor. Andrew Hammer)

Wor. Don Crookes at the USS ConstitutionOn June 4, 2024, Wor, Don Crookes was qualified as Alpha Lodge's Master aboard the U.S.S. Constitution in the historic Charlestown Navy Shipyard. Accompanied by Wor. Adam Marks serving as the qualifying master representative and member of the qualifying council, Alpha Lodge joined with x other lodges to qualify their masters in this historic setting aboard the constitution.

"USS Constitution is the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat and America’s Ship of State. She played a crucial role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, actively defending sea lanes from 1797 to 1855.

IMG 1126 SmallThe Constitution's overall length is 204 feet (62 metres), its displacement is 2,200 tons, and its gun range is 1,200 yards (1,100 metres). The bolts fastening its timbers and copper sheathing on the bottom were made by the silversmith and patriot Paul Revere, who served as the Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts from 1794 to 1797." While Wor. Bro. Crookes has served as Master of Alpha Loge twice before, he now takes over the leadership of Alpha Lodge in a transformative year during during which Alpha Lodge formally embraces Observant Masonry.

The Fall class is on Saturday, November 2, 2024, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Degrees will be shown from each of the four bodies, including the 4° and 32°. As with recent classes, we ask all current members to register for free using the link below. Blue Lodge Freemasons who are interested in joining should speak to the Ambassador of Alpha Lodge, Adam Marks.

Charity2Freemasons are renowned for their charitable acts. As a society, we are taught that true charity is a selfless act, but is it? As Freemasons, we are seekers of Truth. What does the science say and, equally important, what does it mean? Continuing with our annual theme, "Geometry: The Art and Science of Relationships," we will be focusing on "Our Relationship with Charity."  Our guest speaker is a Harvard Professor and TEDx Cambridge presenter who has studied the science of Charity and our motivations behind performing charitable acts.

Please join the members of Alpha Lodge for a dinner presentation and discussion. Dinner is open to all Freemasons and vouched friends of the fraternity. Registration is required.

Picture of Most Worshipful George F. Hamilton  Members throughout the Masonic jurisdiction of Massachusetts attended the Installation of Officers and the Feast of St. John at the Grand Lodge on December 27.  Alpha Lodge members had the honor of participating in the installation for their friend and Brother, George Hamilton. In addition, RW. Alfredo Canhoto was elected Junior Grand Warden, Wor. George Hayeck was appointed Junior Grand Deacon, and RW. Mike Scribner was appointed DDGM of the 15th North Masonic Jurisdiction. The district, the Grand Lodge, and the Grand Jurisdiction are in goo hands.

The Master of Alpha Lodge joined the Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts and his suite of officers for a memorial remembering and honoring military veterans.  The event took place Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 10:00 AM aboard the U.S.S. Massachusetts at 5 Water Street, Fall River, Massachusetts.

The ceremony included a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to R.W. Harold Nye, a decorated sailor and verteran of the USS Massachusetts.
