Mar. 15th District LOI
Freemasons in good standing are cordially invited to attend the 15th District Combined Lodge of Instruction hosted by John Warren Lodge and Alpha Lodge.
This special occasion will be marked with a sit-down dinner where we will present the general theme of silence and introspection, hearing introductory comments during dinner while candidate instruction takes place.
John Warren Lodge will open the 15th Combined Lodge of Instruction, followed by our main topic. We have invited several officers from our district lodges to share their reflections on the theme of silence and introspection. The evening will conclude with the closing of the Lodge of Instruction by the officers of Alpha Lodge.
We hope that you will join us for the evening. Reservations or cancellations may be made through this website, either by a lodge or by individuals, up until Sunday, March 23 at 6:00 PM.

Alpha Annual Theme & Program: The Observant Lodge
This Masonic year, Alpha Lodge is presenting a program aligned with our adoption of observant Masonry. Observant masonry means committing ourselves to doing the utmost to conduct ourselves intentionally and to the best of our abilities, within our lodge and outside. It means knowing and following our Grand Constitutions and bylaws. It means excellence in all we do, from how we conduct ourselves, to caring for each other as we have committed to do, to committing ourselves to studying our ritual and philosophy so that we are always aiming to be a better version of ourselves from one day to the next.
Our program for the year will be to focus on eight areas of excellence as presented and recommended by Wor. Andrew Hammer, W. B. Andrew Hammer, PM, Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22, in his paper, "Eight Steps to Excellence: The Observant Lodge" (by permission of Wor. Andrew Hammer)
To view the Alpha Calendar and make reservations for a visit, please see the Alpha Meeting Calendar.

Toward the Light: Principles of an Observant Masonic Lodge
On January 29, members of Alpha Lodge were invited by the District Deputy Grandmaster of the 15N Masonic District to present their program, "An Observant Lodge," written and presented by Worshipful Rob Jackson. This presentation demonstrated how the lodge prepares to open and close and the presentation detailed how Alpha Lodge is operationalizing the work of Andrew Hammer's "Eight Steps to Excellence: An Observant Lodge," making it a practical application as a year-long program for self improvement, both of the lodge, as a whole, and as a mindset for the individual members.

The event, organzied and hosted by Ezekiel Bates Lodge (https://www.eb1870.org/) has come to be known as a premier event for philosophical masonic thinkers and esoteric speakers in the New England area.
The Alpha members also had the opportunity to listen to and meet with distinguished speakers Dr. Barutti Kmt-Sissivoung, Oscar Alleyne, John Michael Greer, Michael Jarzabek, Jamie Paul Lamb, Robert William Marshall, and Mark Pearrow.
Master Interviewed by the DDGM
On September 26, the Master of Alpha Lodge, Wor. Don Crookes, along with other Masters of the 15N Masonic District was interviewed by the Right Worshipful District Deputy Grandmaster, Michael Scribner, about his plans for Alpha Lodge in the upcoming masonic year.
Wor. Bro. Crookes talked about the transormation of Alpha Lodge to an observant lodge and the shared with those present the intention to follow RW. Andrew Hammer's "Eight Steps to Excellence: The Observant Lodge," each step serving as the program for the regular communication of Alpha Lodge during the year. The Master explained that the focus of Alpha Lodge going forward will be on the philosophical aspects of the ritual and the interpretation that each of us bring to the teachings of Freemasonry.
Supplementing the program will be a meal with philosophical discussion or presentation very much in line with how the founders of speculative masonry envisioned the lodge to function. The first presentation will be an overview of the program which will be presented during the DDGM's official visit to Alpha Lodge on the fourth Monday in October. The Master invites all interested parties to reserve for dinner and join us for the program.
New Master Qualified on the U.S.S. Constitution
On June 4, 2024, Wor, Don Crookes was qualified as Alpha Lodge's Master aboard the U.S.S. Constitution in the historic Charlestown Navy Shipyard. Accompanied by Wor. Adam Marks serving as the qualifying master representative and member of the qualifying council, Alpha Lodge joined with x other lodges to qualify their masters in this historic setting aboard the constitution.
"USS Constitution is the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat and America’s Ship of State. She played a crucial role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, actively defending sea lanes from 1797 to 1855.
The Constitution's overall length is 204 feet (62 metres), its displacement is 2,200 tons, and its gun range is 1,200 yards (1,100 metres). The bolts fastening its timbers and copper sheathing on the bottom were made by the silversmith and patriot Paul Revere, who served as the Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts from 1794 to 1797." While Wor. Bro. Crookes has served as Master of Alpha Loge twice before, he now takes over the leadership of Alpha Lodge in a transformative year during during which Alpha Lodge formally embraces Observant Masonry.
